Patrick Chiasson, MD, FACS

Dr. Chiasson is a board certified and fellowship trained Minimally Invasive Surgeon. He has expertise in advanced laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic procedures. His surgical practice is characterized by managing complex surgical diseases of the GI tract. Dr. Chiasson is recognized both in the Tucson, Arizona community and internationally for his surgical treatment of obesity. He performs all of the established primary and revision weight loss surgical procedures including the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Bypass, Duodenal Switch, and Adjustable Gastric Band. He serves as an educational consultant for Ethicon Endosurgery teaching surgeons from around the country to perform the sleeve operation. Finally, he is the past president of the Arizona chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. In addition, Dr. Chiasson is well known for his Minimally Invasive Surgical management of non-cancerous and cancerous conditions of the esophagus, stomach, colon, and rectum. He has long been acknowledged for his early adoption of both new techniques and technology in the surgical treatment of these diseases. As such, he has been the first surgeon in Southern Arizona to perform many new procedures such has laparoscopic/thoracoscopic esophagectomy, transanal endoscopic microsurgery, laparoscopic duodenal switch, etc. More recently, this has been highlighted by Dr. Chiasson being the first surgeon in Arizona to utilize the Transenterix Spider surgical system allowing him to safely perform single incision procedures.

Dr. Chiasson established the Surgical Weight Loss Program at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, AZ in 2002 and he recently opened and currently serves as the Bariatric Medical Director of the new Bariatric Surgery program at St. Mary's Hospital.

Stephen Burpee, MD, FACS

Dr. Burpee is a board certified and fellowship trained minimally invasive surgeon.He joined Southern Arizona Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery as a partner in 2003 contributing to the development of the Surgical Weight Loss Program at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. He currently serves as the Bariatric Department Medical Director at Northwest Medical Center. He is also a native of Canada and received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario.  Dr. Burpee's surgical residency was performed at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and his subsequent fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery was performed at the University of Toronto. He also obtained additional training in laparoscopic bariatric surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and spent time as a research fellow in the department of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He has many publications in the area of Minimally Invasive Surgery and has special interest in diseases of the gastroesophageal junction, colorectal disease and the surgical management of morbid obesity. His practice encompasses minimally invasive general surgery in addition to bariatric surgical procedures and he also performs robotic minimally invasive general surgery procedures.

Together with Dr. Chiasson, they have recently opened a new bariatric surgery program at St. Mary's Hospital.
